St. Paul’s Dorcas Group
In May 2007
the Parkend branch of the Mother's Union was fading fast and members felt no longer able to
continue. So on 20th May a service was held in church for the closing of the MU
branch and the opening of the new Dorcas Group, The name was chosen from
Chapter 9 Acts, verses 36-43, members feeling that Dorcas, if not a role model,
was someone they could identify with,
The group meets once a month on a Tuesday afternoon at the home of a member,
not always the same one but numbers mean that only two or three have enough
room for everybody. Usually there is a short introduction, prayers
and readings. Whenever possible there is a speaker, at other times a
members' meeting for general discussion. This is followed by tea and
biscuits. The meeting often ends in the saying of the Grace.
At each
meeting members pay £1.00 to the treasurer, this being sent to charity at
the end of the year. There is a church service during Lent and an outing in the
summer.
The group
is open to anyone who would like to attend.
THE BIBLE STUDY GROUP
meets on Thursdays at 7.30 pm at the home of Ruth Howley,
