In response to a request from someone in one of his old parishes, Sam has put together two videos:
- the first is '
two minute prayers', which is a very brief sequence of prayer that can be used early in the day, the text of which is below.
Two minute Morning Prayer
Oh Lord open our lips
And our mouths shall show forth thy praise
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit
As it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever.
Amen.
God of glory,
by the raising of your Son
you have broken the chains of death and hell:
fill your Church with faith and hope;
for a new day has dawned
and the way to life stands open
in our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen
Lord have mercy, Christ have mercy, Lord have mercy
Jesus said, ‘Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens,
and I will give you rest.’
And so we pray with confidence as our Saviour has taught us
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come; thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power, and the glory
f
or ever and ever.
Amen.
And may the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
and the love of God,
and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
be with us all, evermore,
Amen.
- the second is a five minute recording of
Compline, which is also a short sequence of prayers, that can be used at the end of the day, just before sleep. The order of service for Compline is here but you'll need to scroll down a bit
Sometimes it helps to have another voice to pray with, even if that voice is mediated by the internet! It's also easy to pause the recordings in order to make time to read Scripture in the middle – that's why it isn't included, so that they can be used with any bible reading plan or lectionary.
